I didn't get to sleep last night/this morning until gone 1am as I couldn't switch off..... I was then woken up at 4am by a load of clunking and clanking, followed by the sound of Lisa's expressing machine at the side of me...... she had been waking up at 4am to express every morning but it hadn't woke me up before..... I must of been in a light sleep which is surprising considering how knackered I am!
I got up and got dressed for 5am, ready to go and sit with Theo, he was very restless on his tummy so I asked his nurse to turn him on to his favourite side (right side). Once she did this he settled down, so I read him his favourite book (Room on the broom) and Peter Rabbit played him a lullabie.... that did the trick.
I changed his nappy and gave him his 6am feed, then stayed with him to give him his next feed at 7am before going back to RMH to get Jack out of bed and ready for school.... but, when I got there he was already up, so we went back over to the NICU so that Jack could say good morning to Theo.
Whilst taking Jack to school it was clear that I was tired as I was nodding dog down the motorway. I asked Jack to slap me round the face a few times to wake me up.... which he was happy to do!!
When we were bout 5 minutes away from Jack's school, we came to a set of traffic lights that had just turned red; and when I stopped, my auto stop and handbrake came on; so I shut my eyes for a second...... or a few.... next thing I knew all the cars in front had long gone and cars behind were papping their horns...... one of them actually drove around me! Whoops!!!
They were main lights so I must of been asleep for at least 2 minutes!!! Jack was oblivious to it as he was staring out of his window 🙈
I managed the rest of the way to school and then drove to my office down the road for 8:30am, where I pulled up in the car park, put my seat back and fell asleep..... until 11am!!
I didn't do anything at work again; I'm really struggling to focus on anything.... I just sat staring at the picture of Jack holding Theo's hand that I'd put on my desk..... waiting till 3pm so I could go and pick Jack up and get back to the hospital.....
Theo was trying really hard to open his eyes and I didn't want to miss it ❤❤
When we got back to the hospital, Theo had had a good day; his bloods and levels were really good and he looked really settled.... Lisa said that we would need to move to another hospital once Theo comes off his ventilator and that we would all be split up. I told her not to worry about that; and that I would sort something out..... that's the least of my worries at the moment.
A really good nurse had been looking after him today. She made him a lovely nest to sleep in and he looked snug as a bug in a rug. She was telling me about all the different lines and numbers on his ventilator, and what the different colours meant.... Now that I am starting to understand what they are monitoring, I can start to watch for trends etc so that I get to know what he likes and doesn't like.....
I sat with Theo for the remainder of the evening from 4:30pm - 9:30pm and did all his hourly feeds and cares. He is coping really well with his feeds, he's now gone up to 2.5ml per hour. We have to take out his stomach contents every 4 hours to see how much he has digested and check the PH level. He is digesting pretty much all of it over the 4 hour period so there is hardly anything there to put it back in.... that's a really good sign though because it means he wants more....
I swapped over with Lisa at RMH at about 9:40pm and she went over to the NICU and stayed with Theo until after midnight..... we are like passing ships in the night at the minute!
Theo's doing really well; I'm so proud of him.... he's such a superstar and I love him so much ❤❤❤
